Consulting were appointed by main contractor EPS as Civil, Structural and MEICA
Designers for the ECI Contract to upgrade the existing Wastewater Treatment
Plant at Quin in Co Clare.
The existing plant was overloaded and as a result, was not compliant with EU Urban Wastewater Directives. This project has brought improvements to the treatment efficiency of the plant and it will also improve the quality of water discharged to the River Rine, a tributary of the Shannon.
The €4.2 million upgrade scheme also significantly increased the capacity of the plant from its original design population equivalent (PE) of 740, to enable it to serve a population equivalent (PE) of 1350.
The project included a new concrete inlet works comprising of inlet combined screens, manual bypass screen, launder, washpactor, grit removal and grit classifier; installation of new settlement tanks and Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) tanks; extension to the existing administration control building and installation of a new SCADA system; site lighting, security provisions, new internal access road, kerbing and surfacing works including landscaping and all ancillaries.
