Glenavy WwTW, Co. Antrim
The purpose of this NI Water scheme was to increase the treatment capacity for the Glenavy catchment area and to address failures to meet Discharge Consents. Increases in the capacity of wastewater treatment in this area were identified as being necessary to meets the requirements of current and potential future local housing demands in the area.
The scheme was designed to accomodate for a future population of 2,500, enabling the original percolating filter plant to be abandoned and replaced with twin Combined Activated Sludge (CAS) streams on a new site. The contract included the demolition of the old works, construction of a new 1km long transfer pumping station, a new package inlet works, storm storage and new sludge holding facilities as well as the CAS treatment units.
