This project involved new wastewater treatment works which were initiated to meet upcoming regulatory discharge standards in compliance with the EC Directive on Municipal Wastewater Treatment.
The purpose of the scheme was to replace Cookstown WwTW with a new works. The new works included a new inlet works with band inlet screens and combined storm overflow, primary settlement tanks, Sequential Batch Reactors (SBRs), storm storage tanks, sludge holding and thickening facilities, imported sludge and leachate facilities and odour control. The works also provided for river improvement works at the Ballinderry River including the construction of groynes, weirs and the installation of diffuser grids. The new works were designed to treat domestic, sludge and leachate and industrial waste. It was constructed by BSG Civil Engineering for NI Water.
