Moray East Sub-Station Development
Doran Consulting were appointed civil and structural engineering designers for this new Sub Station for Siemens.
The Moray Offshore Wind Zone is located on the Smith Bank in the outer Moray Firth. It is being developed by Moray Offshore Renewables Limited (MORL); a company owned 100% by EDP Renewables (EDPR). MORL was awarded the rights to develop off-shore wind in the outer Moray Firth as a development partner of The Crown Estate as part of the Third Round of Offshore Wind Licensing.
The Doran Consulting scope included the design of 2 buildings, external foundations that supported the AIS equipment and 3 SGT transformers, 6 shunt reactors and 9 harmonic filters, drainage and cable trenches and underground ducting. The SVC building is a single-storey steel framed building housing the valves, a control room and mechanical pumps for the cooling system. The GIS building is a 2-storey building with the ground floor housing the control building and the first floor containing the GIS hall, including a 5T crane in the GIS hall. The final sub-station development is to comprise of two separate sub-stations, the first developed by Moray East & the second by SHET-L.
