Apartments at Wellwood Street

Doran Consulting provided the full range of civil, structural and environmental engineering design services for this landmark residential apartment development situated off Great Victoria Street in central Belfast. The building comprises an open ground floor private car park, with up to 11 storeys of high quality apartments above. The accommodation is split into a main high rise block which varies from 4 to11 floors and a 2-storey block containing more spacious duplex apartments.

An elevated landscaped courtyard between the two blocks completes the development. The structure is predominantly reinforced concrete, with steel framed penthouse suites on the main tower block. Some elements of load bearing masonry are present in the lower blocks. The ground floor car park required the use of extensive long span construction and bridging structures at ground floor level to maintain circulation. The structure is supported on piled foundations.

The development is situated on a former industrial site and as such required careful consideration and monitoring of potential contamination issues relating to disturbance and removal of contaminated materials. Doran Consulting was able to offer this service in addition to advising on design issues.
