Victoria Lock Gates, Newry
Doran Consulting was commissioned by Newry District Council to undertake a condition assessment of the Victoria Lock structure and associated lock gates which are the final barrier between the historic Newry Canal, which was constructed in the 18th century, and Carlingford Lough.
As part of the project, M&E Engineers were also commissioned to the team to investigate methods to enable automation of the lock gates and associated sluices. The team worked closely together to devise an effective and economical solution. Subsequent to our report, we were commissioned to provide the detailed design, specification and tendering of the proposed works which involved restoration works to the lock walls and gates and also the automation of all sluices and gate-opening mechanisms. In addition to detailed design services, we also provided contract administration and site supervision services.
