River Engineering Projects
Doran Consulting has advised on a range of river engineering projects since its establishment in 1953. Commissions have been varied and covered a full spectrum of river engineering matters including feasibility studies, flood plain analyses, capital works, flood defence projects, relining or replacing culverts, high and low flows, river bank stability assessments and detailed design of hydroelectric developments for both public and private sector clients across Northern Ireland.
We have been commissioned in relation to two major dredging works carried out on Belfast’s principal river, the Lagan, the most recent having taken place in 2010 which saw the dredging and disposal of around 90,000 tonnes of silt. The dredging of the Lagan improves the quality of the water and its amenity for river users, having a knock on positive effect on the local economy.
Also carried out feasibility studies and technical assessments of other key waterways including River Roe which is an area of special scientific interest due to its flora and fauna, the Erne River which links Lower Lough Erne to the Atlantic Ocean.
