Doran Consulting were appointed by main contractor Graham Lagan Construction Group JV to act as Lead Designer for the Wind Turbine Assembly Facility at Green Port, Hull. The facility provides the UK’s largest offshore wind manufacturing, assembly and installation facility at the Port of Hulls Alexandra Dock.
The scheme included infilling one third of Alexandra Dock with 870,000m³ of material and reclaiming 7.5ha of the river to create a new 650m deepwater quay wall which can accommodate three off shore wind installation vessels.
The works involved the construction of approximately 650m of deepwater quay (anchored combi-wall) with 3 berths, East Lead-in Jetty, revetment and dock infill works, off shore bird roosting platform, reclamation and ground improvement works, heavy duty pavement with associated infrastructure (high masts lights, petrol interceptors, outfalls, noise barrier etc), capital dredging, roll on/roll off ramp, car parking, internal roads, drainage and service networks.
All the design works were significantly completed within an extremely tight programme of 5 months. In 2017 this project won the CEF Construction Excellence Award in the GB & Republic of Ireland Construction category.
