Bleach Green to Whitehead Sea Defenses

Doran Consulting was commissioned by Translink to undertake an assessment of the condition of 8 sections of embankment along the Belfast to Larne railway line between Bleach Green and Whitehead, in Co. Antrim.  All 8 sections are subject to wave action within the Belfast Lough.  Based on this assessment, works were convened to protect two sections of embankment using reinforced concrete toe beams and aprons and using 3 to 6 tonne rock armour.  Doran Consulting carried out the detailed design of the recommended works, followed by tender documentation and contract administration.  The majority of the work was undertaken to coincide with low tide on the lough, with the adjacent train lines remaining fully operational throughout the works.
