Doran Consulting was appointed as lead consultant by Cookstown District Council to undertake the design and contract administration for the construction of a multi-use sports facility at Loughry, Cookstown, to provide a centre of excellence for sports in the Mid Ulster area.
The completed facility houses 5 grass “sand mattress” pitches for rugby, football and Gaelic football, a floodlit 3G (rubber crumb) synthetic pitch suitable for multi sport use and an endurance/ outdoor training area. It also contains a multi-use changing facility including a fitness suite and conditioning area, together with car-parking. New access roads were also constructed.
We worked closely with the client and the other members of the design team to fully meet the brief. The synthetic pitch is a state-of-the-art 3rd generation synthetic turf pitch which is FIFA and UEFA approved and is suitable for play in all weather conditions. The endurance area, which has a Polymeric shock absorbing surface, can accommodate a variety of games including soccer, netball, tennis and basketball as well as general fitness conditioning. These features have ensured that the Mid Ulster Sports Complex is the only venue of its kind in the region.
