Moyola WTW treats water from Lough Neagh to supply Magherafelt and the surrounding area. Doran Consulting was appointed as the Project Manager and client representative, by Water Service DOE (NI), for the upgrade works which were required to provide the Magherafelt area with 22.8Ml/day (maximum flow), with the water being treated to required EC compliance levels for the next 40 years.
The new works were procured on a Design & Build basis using NEC Option C Contract. It was also designed in such a way that the current output of the existing works on the same site as the proposed works was maintained until the new works were fully commissioned.
In the new works, the water is treated through a flotation process. New inlet works were provided to abstract and screen 1Ml/hr from either Lough Neagh or the adjacent Moyola River; this water is then transferred via new pumps to the head of the works. Treated water is transferred via new high lift pumps and a new 500mm transfer main to duplicate the existing 7.5km pipeline to the service reservoir.
Doran Consulting provided the following services to the client: Project Management, Process Design Approval, Civil Design Approval, Site Supervision and Planning Supervision.
