Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station

Doran Consulting contributed to the design input for the Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station situated in Suffolk, on behalf of GEC Alsthom Ltd. Sizewell B is the UK’s only commercial pressurised water reactor power station and at its current rate of electricity output, is capable of supplying over 2.5 million homes.

During construction, we provided over a 5 year period, a complete design and detail service for the Turbine Hall which saw the installation of over 4,000 tonnes of structural supporting steelwork for major pressure vessels, HPLP (high pressure/ low pressure) heaters, condensers, tube-nests, turbine flooring, de-aerators and drain vessels, access walkways and stairs.

A co-ordination service was also provided to check for route clashes in relation to the feed heating pipe-work runs, the steel structural frames and the vessels being supported. Vibration studies associated with the main turbine platforms were also undertaken. We also provided an on-site supervision service during erection and commissioning.
