Marie Curie Cancer Centre, Belfast

Doran Consulting was appointed to provide civil and structural engineering design services for the extension and refurbishment of the Marie Curie Cancer Care Centre in Belfast.

The extension is a single storey, load-bearing masonry structure with extensive clerestory glazing. The new building encloses a planted courtyard which can be accessed directly from adjacent patient bedrooms and therapy rooms. Nineteen new bedrooms with en suite facilities were provided in the extension.

Planted retaining structures were employed to increase the available car parking area.

Carefully coordinated planning was required to minimise disruption to patients and staff at the centre which remained operational throughout the construction phase. Doran Consulting also provided CDM Co-ordination services for the project.
