Kilkeel Health Centre & Ambulance Station, Co. Down
This Design & Build project involved the provision of a new health centre and ambulance station to serve Kilkeel and the surrounding community.
Health Centre
The health centre was built to provide a wide range of services including examination rooms, day procedure unit, physiotherapy suite, dental unit and various associated ancillary rooms. The 2-storey building is predominantly constructed from load bearing masonry with a steelwork vaulted roof structure rising off the concrete deck at first floor. Stability to the steel frame is achieved through a combination of moment connections and bays of vertical bracing.
The building is partially clad with stone to complement the surrounding Mourne Mountains.
Ambulance Station
Owing to its remote location, the ambulance station was built with the aim of significantly improving local response times. The building was constructed from a fully braced steel frame with a distinctive butterfly roof and is supported on traditional pad and strip foundations.
