Doran Consulting was commissioned to provide structural and civil engineering design services for this new-build college in Omagh. The new school consists of both single and 2-storey classroom blocks constructed from fully braced steel frames on traditional foundations.
Both the assembly/ dining hall and multipurpose sports halls are located to the west of the school complex and were also framed in structural steel, with the signature ‘saw tooth’ roof structure formed from lattice girders. A single storey CDT (craft design & technology) block is located to the rear of the school, along with a service yard and grounds maintenance building.
The external civil engineering works on this sloping site consisted of cut and fill ground works to re-grade the site, construction of a foul and storm drainage system along with the main access roads and car parking areas. In addition, the design services included the provision of a full sized synthetic pitch, traditional grass football and rugby pitches, along with five tennis courts.
We were also responsible for the design of the road access arrangements which required the realignment of the adjacent Bankmore and Crevenagh Roads and the provision of a roundabout.
