Cross Harbour Link - M3 - Eastern Approach Bridges, Belfast
Following a UK wide moratorium on post-tensioned bridges, Doran Consulting was appointed by the DoE Roads Service to provide the superstructure design service for the M3 - Eastern Approach Bridges in reinforced concrete.
This commission consisted of the deck design for the two East and West Bridges, which facilitated the slip-off road under the eastern approach to the M3 Cross Harbour Bridge. The decks, with skews exceeding 30%, were reinforced concrete voided slabs spanning some 34m.
The design was completed within a very tight timescale to suit the client's programme of works. Doran Consulting subsequently organised the full scale load testing of the structure for serviceability performance criteria.
