Project Summary

The Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme renewed eight central streets to create a safer, more attractive and accessible town centre that reflects the island town’s historic character. The project included more than 7,300 square metres of natural stone paving, upgraded pedestrian crossings, energy-efficient lighting, landscaping, coordinated street furniture and an adaptable event space at The Diamond with automated bollards for managed traffic, servicing and emergency access.

Expertise & Delivery

The project was delivered through RIBA Stages 0–7. Consultation with residents, traders, statutory bodies and accessibility groups, supported by Equality Impact Assessments aligned with Equality Commission for Northern Ireland guidance, shaped crossings, gradients, tactile paving, seating and movement routes. Detailed phasing, temporary pathways and barriers maintained continuous access to businesses, while the programme was adjusted around local events and peak trading periods. The completed scheme combines inclusive movement, heritage restoration and durable public-realm details to support footfall and long-term town-centre resilience.
