Fire Training Facility at Dubai International Airport
03 August 2012
Doran Consulting was appointed by Saudi based consultants DAR Group to provide civil engineering design services for a new fire training ground at Dubai International Airport.
This new facility involved the design of 11,500m2 of reinforced concrete ground slab, reinforced concrete foundations and drainage trench under the A380 Aircraft Fire Simulator. The design of the hardstanding areas took into account the high temperatures expected to be generated by the fire training rig and associated ground fire installations.
Environmental protection measures, including contaminated water storage tanks and leader basins prior to final discharge, were also incorporated to try to prevent contamination of and subsequent discharge of ground water contaminated with AFFF foam used to fight aircraft fires.
