Cardiff Airport, Wales
This design and construction project, for TBI plc., involved a 180m long steel framed elevated walkway with associated ground floor pre-boarding zones and offices. A further 75m long single storey walkway was also constructed to access the west apron stands. To provide access to the existing baggage reclaim building and maintain bus routes, elevated link bridges were necessary.
Extensive refurbishment to the existing terminal buildings was carried out to create an immigration hall and ease passenger flows. As the work was carried out in a live airport, phasing of the works was necessary to avoid interference with aircraft and passenger flows. The project also included associated drainage and roads/ car park improvements and 2,000m² of apron construction.
