Project Summary

The Milewater Service Centre at Duncrue Street is a purpose-built facility for servicing, maintaining and repairing Translink’s eco-hybrid Glider fleet and other buses. The 9.1-acre development provides approximately 11,600 square metres of offices, staff accommodation, engineering garages, workshops and bus-washing facilities, with parking for 145 buses and 191 staff vehicles.

Expertise & Delivery

The project was delivered from feasibility through RIBA Stages 1–7 with Doran Consulting managing the ICT and providing project management, civil, structural and traffic engineering, Principal Designer and Site Supervision. The team directed investigations into flood risk and contamination, managed decisions on finished floor levels and engineered fill and controlled interfaces between demolition, site preparation, access, drainage, structures and specialist bus-maintenance systems. Programme, cost, technical risk and constructability were reviewed throughout. A clear-span steel portal frame and separated roof-water and surface-water networks feeding rainwater harvesting reduced maintenance demand and potable-water use while supporting operational flexibility.
