Bar Library & Office Block, Belfast
Doran Consulting was appointed to provide the structural engineering design services for this prestigious library and office building for the Bar Council of Northern Ireland. The building is situated beside the Royal Courts of Justice on a compact city centre site which required a high quality design in keeping with its location and carefully co-ordinated planning throughout the construction phase.
The project comprises two 5-storey reinforced concrete buildings with complex steel roof structures which house library and conference facilities for the Bar Council and also provide commercial office space. One of the blocks has a basement car park formed with a contiguous piled retaining wall.
Doran Consulting also provided CDM Co-ordination services for the scheme.
The building received the RSUA (Royal Society of Ulster Architects) Building of the Year and Best Commercial Building Awards in 2004, the CEF (Construction Employers Federation) Construction Award in 2003 and the Civic Trust Northern Ireland Public Realm Special Award in 2004.
