South Bank Quay

The Client: South Tees Development Corporation

Our roles: Geotechnical Engineer, Marine Engineer, Civil Engineer, Structural Engineer

Project Summary

The first phase of South Bank Quay created a staging and manufacturing hub for offshore wind development on the River Tees. The works included more than 600 metres of deep-water quay wall, a 250-metre piled heavy-lift platform, high-capacity concrete paving, extensive dredging and integrated drainage, firewater, potable-water and electrical infrastructure.

Expertise & Delivery

The project was delivered through integrated geotechnical, marine, civil and structural engineering, with Doran Consulting designing the quay structures, heavy-duty pavements, earthworks, drainage and utilities. Advanced geotechnical analysis informed anchored combi-wall and piled quay solutions for demanding marine and operational loads. The team coordinated buildability, sequencing, temporary works and interfaces with dredging, piling and land operations alongside the contractor and specialist supply chain. Cement stabilisation enabled reuse of site-won material, reducing disposal, imported fill and vehicle movements. Quality assurance focused on foundation preparation, concrete performance and operational tolerances for offshore-wind manufacturing and deployment.
